A multidisciplinary team from the South African Police Service has arrested a suspect in connection with an alleged staged assassination attempt in Vosloorus.
Police confirmed that the suspect was arrested on Friday evening after investigators executed a J50 warrant of arrest on charges relating to defeating the ends of justice.
It is believed that the arrested individual is Brown Mogotsi.
The arrest reportedly took place shortly after Mogotsi appeared before the Madlanga Commission earlier on Friday.
He failed in his bid to have the chief evidence leader Matthew Chaskalson recused from the proceedings.
According to preliminary investigations, the case stems from allegations that the suspect orchestrated or falsely reported an attempted assassination on his own life.
Authorities said investigations into the matter uncovered links between the firearm allegedly used in the incident and several other serious violent crimes.
The firearm has reportedly been connected to multiple cases of murder and attempted murder currently under investigation.
Police have not yet released the identity of the suspect or further details surrounding the alleged staged attack.
The suspect is expected to appear before the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 18 May 2026.
Investigations are continuing as authorities work to determine the full extent of the suspect’s alleged involvement in related criminal activities.
