Three detectives attached to the South African Police Service (SAPS) station in Pretoria West have been arrested following an undercover anti-corruption operation linked to allegations of extortion and corruption.
In a statement issued on Friday, the SAPS confirmed that two sergeants and a constable were arrested on Thursday, 14 May 2026, during a covert operation conducted in Pretoria.
According to preliminary information, the officers allegedly extorted money from two suspects connected to a kidnapping case they were investigating.
Authorities said the operation forms part of ongoing efforts to root out corruption and criminal conduct within law enforcement structures.
The three officers are expected to appear before the Pretoria North Magistrate’s Court next week on charges of corruption and extortion.
The arrests come amid intensified scrutiny of corruption within policing structures and growing pressure on authorities to strengthen accountability in the criminal justice system.
Further investigations into the matter are continuing.
